What began as a day of community service eight years ago has grown into a 30-day festival of sharing, caring and giving. The main event — ShareFest — was held Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Spencer School campus in New Lenox, gathering legions of volunteers from the New Lenox community, schools, churches and local government.

It’s all about acts of kindness, said New Lenox resident Gary Cheney, the event’s founder and organizer.
